INTERACTIVE SESSION: ABIODUN CHARGES JOURNALISTS ON OBJECTIVE REPORTAGE,

1. It is indeed my profound pleasure to meet you again today after our previous interaction immediately after the conclusion of the general elections, and in fulfilment of my promise to keep a very close relationship with you for constant engagement.

2. As  critical stakeholders in the polity of Ogun State and the business of governance, in line with section 22 of the 1999 constitution as amended, your role as watchdog and essential partners in progress can never be overemphasized.

3. I want to commend your consciousness for professionalism, by being objective and patriotic in your reportage with focus of building a strong socioeconomic bridge for our dear state and for the coming generations.

4.As you all know, our state and the country at large are in dire need of systemic media space that is progressive in orientation and developmental in thinking, for the purpose of creating investment-friendly image .

5.Of course, one of the core values and fundamental obligation of the media is critical evaluation of governmental policies through constructive criticism and objective assessment.

6. This fundamental principle of journalism as illumination of the society is regrettably defeated if criticism is based on malice, parochial tendency and self aggrandizement; such is destructive and a disservice to our collective aspirations and desires.

7.To this end, I want to thank you for many of your reports in the past years, which had objectively and constructively assessed our policies and subsequently served as impetus for us to improve on the quality of our democratic deliveries and serve our people better.

8.However, I want to implore the leadership of the NUJ and heads of various chapels to always try and encourage their members to be always objective and responsible in their reportage as the real conscience of the society that you are, especially those who are working for various online platforms.

9. On our part as a Government, we shall continue to support your union in all ways possible to ensure you seamlessly deliver your statutory obligations in a media friendly environment and without any form of intimidation whatsoever.

10. I want to assure you that all your demands in our last meeting are being looked into for quick and immediate implementation within our limited resources.

11. Also we are working on the allocation of land for the council to build it's permanent site, aside the focus of our administration to make indelible impacts of it's kind in the council in any form we consider necessary and imperative.

12. Finally, I want to announce to you that my new media team will be unveiled in the next couples of hours, to begin a new pattern of relationship and interaction with you in total departure from the past.

13. I, therefore, implore you to give my new Chief Press Secretary and his team necessary support to succeed.

14. Thank you so much for your rapt attention and God bless.
