The Nigeria football federation has ratified the change of name of the Nigeria Premier football league before the start of the 2023/24 season.
This was done at the 79th general assembly of the country 's football governing body on Sunday in Uyo, capital city of Akwa-Ibom.
"The Congress approved the change of name of the Nigerian.Proffessiinal football league," NFF said in a communique.
The new board of NPFL had paraded the league as the big Premier Football league, launching a new logo and new name for the league but the NFF had also insisted that only the congress had the power to change the name.
The 2023/24 NPFL season was scheduled to kick-off on Saturday, September 9 with a curtain raiser between 3sc and Plateau united in Ibadan. But the league suffered another postponement due to what the board called exigencies around its sponsorship.
A new date for the kick off is expected to be announced in due course.
Enyimba won the league last season during the super 6 playoffs in Lagos to be crowned champions for a record nine times.
The NPFL was founded in 1971, 51 years ago.
