Inject empathy in women- girl child violations reportage, expert urges journalists




 A media facilitator, Barr. Omolara Oriye has urged journalists to always inject empathy into their reports when writing stories on gender, sexual, reproductive health, rights of the vulnerable in the society.

She  stressed this, Wednesday, while speaking on the "Intersectionality of Rights in Media Reporting" at a  training session for Journalists held at Elomaz Hotel Conference Hall, Maryland, Lagos,

 Oriye,  urged the participants to avoid the use of certain words such as defilement when reporting on rape incidents as the meaning can further ostracize  the victims rather than the perpetrators..

The training which was organized by Vision Spring initiatives, had in attendance Journalists and other participants from Lagos,Ogun, Oyo,Osun,,Ondo and Ekiti.


 In her brief remarks, the Project Director of Vision Spring initiatives,Ngozi Nwosu-Juba  said the NGO has done a lot  through advocacy, empowerment, education and training on gender equality, girl- Child, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights and all issues relating to the vulnerable in the society that certain laws and policies of government have affected, adding that  media should always reports more on these so as to further draw government attention to the issues.

 She added that nobody  should be discriminated against and no one left behind in attaining their rights.
