Following the tragic death of the son of popular Yoruba movie actor Ibrahim Chatta, the Ọmọ Yorùbá Àtàtà Socio-cultural Initiative (ỌYÀSI) has expressed deep sorrow and sympathy to the Nollywood community.
In an official statement signed by the Chairman, Mr. Ọlawale Ajao, and the Secretary, Chief Saheed Alatiṣe, ỌYÀSI described the loss as not just a personal tragedy for Chatta, but also a deeply felt sorrow within the organization.
“We are mourning with Ibrahim Chatta on the death of his godson,” the statement read. “This loss is personal to ỌYÀSI because it came at a time we were beginning to engage with him directly.”
ỌYÀSI revealed that prior to the tragedy, they had planned a courtesy visit to Ibrahim Chatta to discuss his role in the upcoming Second World Headdress Celebration—a major cultural event held annually towards the end of the year. A formal letter of intention was submitted to Chatta on Thursday, just two days before the devastating news emerged.
“It is heartbreaking. We had intended to meet with him this week to involve him in our cultural project, but this sudden loss changed everything,” the statement added.
Extending heartfelt condolences, ỌYÀSI offered prayers for Ibrahim Chatta, his family, and the entire Nollywood industry, saying, “With deep sorrow, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Nollywood star and pray he never witnesses such sorrow again. May God protect him, his family, and the whole Nollywood community from any form of disaster.”
Actor Ibrahim Chatta, aged 54, announced the passing of his godson in a somber Instagram post on Saturday. Though he did not disclose details surrounding the death, his grief was evident. Sharing a photo of his late son, he wrote:
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Ya Allah, You are the Knower of all things. Rest on, dear son, champ.”
This tragedy has cast a shadow over the Nollywood industry, with fans, colleagues, and cultural organizations like ỌYÀSI rallying around the grieving actor during this difficult time.
