Ogun Police Debunk Fake Security Alert, Warn Against Spreading Misinformation

The Ogun State Police Command has issued a statement refuting a viral security alert circulating online, featuring a picture of Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo,

The command warns that the post is unauthorized, deceptive, and was made without their directive or approval.

According to a  statement made available to Journalists on Wednesday by the Spokesperson of the Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, the police has observed a surge in unsolicited "security tips" online, some of which falsely claim a state of emergency or widespread insecurity in the state. The command attributes this to individuals and groups recycling old videos, publishing alarming content, and using divisive language to cause panic and fear among residents.

The police also warned these individuals to stop posting frightening and unverified claims, and assured residents that identified areas are under close surveillance with additional police deployment to enhance safety and security.

The statement urges residents to remain calm and reassured, and to disregard the fake security alert.
