The Action Democratic Party (ADP), Ogun State chapter has expressed its readiness to give the Party's Governorship ticket to the Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Segun Showunmi.
The party's stakeholders who were drawn from the 20 local government areas of the State, told Sowunmi to come into the party and contest under the platform of the party for his governorship aspiration come 2027.
They made the appeal during their visit to the PDP stalwart in Abeokuta, the State capital.
It would be recalled that two weeks ago, the Labour Party also lures Showunmi with its governorship ticket.
The State Chairperson of ADP, Ambassador Olufunke Olanrewaju, who led the party leaders, noted that they considered Showunmi to be one of the strong grassroots politician in the State, hence their appeal for him to contest under their party.
She explained though two individuals have shown interest in contesting for the governorship under the party, they believed Showunmi has the capacity and popularity to secure victory in 2027.
Her words: “We are here to meet our brother, grassroots leader, the person of Otunba Segun Sowunmi. He is a well known person, he is a grassroots leader, we are here to welcome him into our party ADP. We are here to meet him, we want him to come and contest in our party".
She added "Though, we have two people on ground, we hope for him to win the ticket because he is a grassroots politician, we have known him for a long time. With the kind of person he is, if he becomes the Governor of the State, everything will be fine".
"As leader and as a well known person to me, we want him, we solicit for him to contest on our platform ADP. I know he is a member of PDP, the thing is, we can all see what is on ground", she stated .
Showunmi while responding, expressed gratitude to the ADP leadership for their confidence in him and commended the party.
The PDP stalwart commended the founding fathers of the party which included the father of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Dimeji Bankole, High Chief Alani Bankole for their roles in the party ideologies till date and also galvanising the party’s growing popularity within the State as well as at the nation at large.
Showunmi acknowledged the offer to contest under the ADP platform, stating that he would give it serious consideration, reaffirming his commitment to the progress of Ogun State.
“I have heard your request to contest the governorship under your platform. All I can say is thank you, and by the grace of Almighty God, I will consider it seriously,” he said.
