In the past few hours, the Mexican government confirmed that a federal operation resulted in the killing of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, one of the world’s most powerful drug lords, better known as “El Mencho,” the alleged leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
In response, drug cartels reportedly took control of parts of the city. 😱
They set up roadblocks and burned vehicles and businesses across different areas of Guadalajara, as well as in the states of Michoacán, Guanajuato, Colima, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas. Armed groups also allegedly caused chaos at the city’s airport, with videos circulating online showing passengers running for safety.
El Mencho was one of the most wanted drug traffickers by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which had offered a $15 million reward for information leading to his capture. Residents have reportedly been advised to remain indoors.
