Mexican authorities have uncovered a sophisticated cross-border smuggling tunnel stretching from Tijuana deep into the United States — hidden in plain sight right under a residential floor.
Mexican federal authorities, backed by the Navy, raided a residence in Nueva Tijuana and found the nearly 3,000-foot tunnel toward San Diego. The entrance was concealed under freshly laid tile in a home in the middle of a neighborhood.
Equipped with ventilation, electrical systems, and rails for moving drugs, the tunnel extended over 1,000 feet into U.S. territory. This is the latest in a long line of cartel tunnels exploiting the border.
