African Boxing Championship: Khadijat secures Team Nigeria’s first gold in Nairobi
Team Nigeria’s campaign at the ongoing African Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships in Nairobi, Kenya, received a massive boost as pugilist Ajishola Khadijat produced a masterclass performance to clinch the country’s first gold medal at the tournament.
Khadijat etched her name into the history books following a dominant display in the final of the women’s 51–54kg bantamweight category.
The Nigerian boxer proved too hot to handle for her Algerian counterpart, Malak Noir E, as all five judges scored the explosive bout in favor of the clinical Nigerian star, sealing a flawless 5–0 unanimous decision victory.
From the opening bell, Khadijat dictated the pace of the contest with aggressive footwork, sharp jabs, and precise tactical counter-punching, leaving Noir E struggling for answers throughout the three rounds.
Her historic triumph marks a major breakthrough for Nigeria’s boxing contingent in Nairobi, setting a triumphant tone for the rest of Team Nigeria as they push for more podium finishes at the continental showcase.
