The battle between Africa representative Nigeria and USA ended in a 31-31 draw affair at the IHF Men’s Emerging Nations Championship in Varna, #Bulgaria.
USA were ahead at the end of the first half with 18-12 but we're denied a victory by the Nigerians with excellent displays from Goalkeeper Obinna Okwor, right back Faruk Yusuf (5 goals and 3 assists) and others helped the African gained a slender lead.
However, Amar Amitovic scored the last goal of the match, a converted penalty, which saw the USA save a draw, 31:31, in dramatic fashion.
Recall that Nigeria lost to the USA, 24:39, in the 2019 edition.
Much improved performance from the boys.
Nigeria and the USA are now tied on the second and third place in the standings, with one point each, behind the Republic of Moldova. The two sides still have to play the current group leaders and Azerbaijan in the preliminary round of the 2025 IHF Men’s Emerging Nations Championship.
