Suspended Nig.Senator cries, presents case to IPU

Senator Natasha Akpoti has taken her case to the Inter Parliamentary Union meeting at the United Nations in New York.

At the Women in Parliament session held during the IPU meeting, Senator Natasha called for justice and intervention from global democratic institutions alleging that her suspension from the Nigerian Senate was unlawful.

She said she was being victimised for standing for justice expressing concern over her security.

Natasha was crying while making her presentation.

Her suspension from the Senate came after she accused the Senate President of sexual harrasment.

Natasha amid tears said she thought the Senate President would recuse himself so they can both submit themselves for investigation under the ethics committee but she was silenced and suspended for six months.

She described her predicament as political victimisation and punishment for speaking out against impunity, corruption and gender based violence.
