... Pledges Support for President Tinubu's 2027 Re-Election...
The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a 55 member campaign committee to galvanize victory for its candidate in the coming Remo Federal Constituency bye- Election billed for August 16.
The Party at the official Flag off cum inauguration,also pledged its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's second-term ambition in the 2027 general elections. The party's state chairman, Hon. Abayomi Tella, made the pledge on Monday during the official flag-off and inauguration of the campaign council for Bolarinwa Oluwole, the PDP candidate vying to represent Remo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The event was held at the Akarigbo of Remo Palace Hall in Sagamu. Bolarinwa is seeking to replace the late Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the former lawmaker representing the constituency, who passed away in January after a brief illness.
Addressing party faithful and stakeholders at the ceremony, Mr. Abayomi Tella said that despite President Tinubu being a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the PDP in Ogun State would back his re-election because he is a son of the South West.
"We will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Though he is in the opposition, let's support our own from the South West. Our support is for Tinubu, and we will stand by him. We are ready to give him our votes. The whole of the South West will give him our votes."
Tella also spoke on the recent defections of the party's former governorship running mate, Adekunle Akinlade, and other defectors from the PDP, describing them as immaterial, adding that they were individuals who lacked real political weight.
"Do not be discouraged by the defections. Those who left – what did they contribute to the party? Even in their polling units, they couldn't deliver. We are not moved by that," he added.
In his address, the candidate of the party for the Remo Federal Constituency, Hon. Bolarinwa Oluwole, expressed gratitude to Hon. Ladi Adebutu, the state working committee, and party members for reposing confidence in him and stated his readiness for the campaign.
"From today, as I leave this hall, I will continue my door-to-door, base-to-base campaign. I would like to say a word to the APC members and our governor: please don't snatch ballot boxes. I have to say this openly and publicly. Our governor should remember that when he was vying for the senate seat, my father worked and delivered for him. I tried and get and to the hotel in Ijebu Ode over 50 times for him when they had issues with his clearance. Honestly, our governor should go and think about it. If he tries to allow my vote to be stolen"
Hon. Ladi Adebutu expressed gratitude and appreciation for the unity and support shown by party members and corroborated the pledge of the Ogun PDP to back President Tinubu's re-election. He narrated his past electoral successes, including winning 34 out of 35 wards in the Remo Constituency in a previous election, and emphasized the importance of the bye-election and the need to challenge bad governance in Ogun State.
He called for massive support for the party's candidate and lampooned the APC-led government in Ogun State, saying it has lost goodwill due to its conduct, such as tampering with local government funds, which he described as disenfranchisement despite improved funding.
He compared the current government's performance with the People's Democratic Party's past achievements, particularly in grassroots development. He reiterated the party's commitment to peaceful and lawful means of achieving power, adding that the PDP would reject violence and voter suppression in the coming election. He therefore charged party members to protect their votes.
Adebutu urged support for the PDP candidate, Bola Oluwole, describing the bye-election as an opportunity to punish bad governance and restore sanity.
