The Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) has launched a statewide enforcement exercise aimed at enhancing citizens' compliance with tax laws and improving the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
During the exercise, the Executive Chairman of OGIRS, Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye, represented by the Zonal Controller, Ota Zone, Mr. Godwin Okpandu, stated that the enforcement drive targets corporate organisations, business premises, and institutions that have repeatedly failed to fulfill their tax obligations despite several notifications and reminders.
Olaleye emphasized that tax payment is a civic duty and a vital source of funding for crucial government services, such as infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and other public projects. He appealed to business owners and organizations to regularize their tax records with OGIRS.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and improved service delivery, assuring that the enforcement operations would be conducted in a lawful, respectful, and orderly manner.
The Zonal Controller, Ijebu Zone, Mr. Adebola Sorunke, described the initiative as largely successful and lauded the cooperation received from some taxpayers. He reiterated OGIRS's resolve to sustain enforcement efforts alongside ongoing taxpayer education and engagement.
The Head of PAYE and Compliance, OGIRS, Mrs. Bosede Opawande, urged taxpayers to fulfill their obligations promptly, emphasizing that timely payment of taxes is essential for the agency to meet its revenue targets and support the state's socio-economic development.
