Ogun Senator Empowers 200 Undergraduates, Graduates with Laptops and Cash Gifts

 



Senator Shuaibu Salisu, representing Ogun Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has empowered 200 undergraduates and graduates of tertiary institutions in the senatorial district. Addressing the beneficiaries via zoom at the Senatorial District Office, Olorunsogo, Abeokuta, Senator Shuaibu charged the undergraduates to always project good leadership at various campuses.


Shuaibu, who is leading  the Nigeria delegation to the 3rd Africa  Cyber Security Summit in Kenya, urged all the beneficiaries, including SUG Presidents of institutions, participants from Muslim and Christian communities, and graduates, to see the digital capacity training and provision of laptops and cash gifts as a means of continuous learning.


The Senator, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cyber Security, also enjoined the beneficiaries to practice the acquired skills to ensure that the knowledge acquired would be of greater benefit to them and the society at large.


Shuaibu related how his journey to the National Assembly started as a student senator at the University of Lagos, stating that students' welfarism would continue to be a priority to him, noting that education is the bedrock of any development.


Speaking further, Sen. Shuaibu stated that the first project he did was to fix the FUUNAB town roads. He also promised to intervene in the deplorable state of roads in front of the Federal College of Education, Osiele, and called on relevant ministries of the Federal Government to work on the Adatan-Ibadan road.


"I am focused on empowerment using technology because that is the empowerment that is dignified and truly empowers," he said. "I am delighted that in the last three days, I've been monitoring all these trainings. The knowledge acquired would stay with you forever, unlike some other things that generate applause but, in the long run, don't truly empower."

 Earlier, the Leader of the Odeda Local Government legislative House, Hon Rotimi Adeyemi and Chief of Staff,  Oloye Fasiu Alimi and a Senior legislative aide,Sunkanmi Oliyide, commended Senator Shuaibu for bringing the initiative. They enjoined the beneficiaries to utilize the knowledge they have acquired to make positive impact in their tertiary Institutions and in the society

 Some of the beneficiaries while expressing gratitude to Senator Shuaibu, emphasized the importance of digital literacy in the new age,not that the training has equipped them not to be consumer of digital contents only but to also be producers whose skills would be of immense contributions to the various institutions and the society.

In their separate remarks,  Fuunab Students Union President,Isaiah Olamilekan, David Monye  and Dokunmu David Adebowale of Federal College of education,FCE, Osiele, described the training as an eye opening and one that has broaden their horizons about the digital technology skills and literacy.

Highlights of the event include presentation of Laptops and cash gift of #50,000 each to all the participants
