OGBC Annual Lecture: Media Key to Propagating Govt Policies, Driving Economic Growth - Experts





Experts have harped on the need for the media and government to always collaborate  so as to enhance propagation of government policies, economic growth and national development.

They described the media as a key factor in the dissemination of government programmes,policies, stressing that accurate and responsible reportage of government initiatives would deepen public understanding, trust ,popular participation and institutional development of the nation.




The  experts  include the Ogun State Head of Staff,Mr. Wale Onasanya,represented by Permanent Secretary,Min. Of Information,Waheed Adesina,Olota of Ota, Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege , key note Speakers; the Chief Economic Adviser and Commissioner for finance, Hon. Dapo Okubadejo,Prof Dele Odunlami made these summations at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, OGBC Chapel 2O25 Annual Lecture held on Thursday at NUJ Secretariat, Iwe- Irohin, Oke-ilewo, Abeokuta.

 On the theme of the Lecture, The Media As Agent for propagating Government Policies and Development, Prof.Odunlami, described the media as a bridge between the government and the governed. 

 In a statement made available to Newslife,Special Adviser on Media and strategy to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, on  the 2025 OGBC NUJ Annual Lecture stated that Media plays a vital role in disseminating government policies and promoting economic development.

 

Akinmade emphasized that the media serves as a conduit for disseminating government policies and programs, creating awareness, and promoting transparency and accountability. He cited Ogun State's efforts in leveraging media to promote investment, showcase development initiatives, and engage citizens.


He highlighted the benefits of a well-oiled media, including economic growth, investment promotion, tourism promotion, and economic stability, urging the media to continue partnering with government to drive growth and development.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Chapel, Chris Ogbu stated that the theme of lecture was  aptly chosen to remind the media professionals on the important role they play in fast tracking development through their reportage.
