Ogun State Governor,Prince Dapo Abiodun has called for women inclusiveness in major decision making in all sectors
Governor abiodun stated this,on Tuesdays,in an event organised by the ogun state water corporation to mark the world water day theme " water and gender: advancing inclusive water governance" held in abeokuta,state capital.
He explained that water is not a mere technical or infrastructural issue,but a human issue,as such system involving management and administration of water resources, including policies, institutions, and decision-making processes.for women should be enacted
Represented by the commissioner for finance, Hon Dapo Okubadejo,he emphasised that women and girls are the most affected and under represented in water governance,noting that women bears the burden of water scarcity in Africa and the world,using it to sustain livelihood.
In his address,The commissioner for environment,Oladimej Oresanya commended the ogun state water corporation and its partner,as he noted that the water corporation produces water ,while the ministry of environment preserve ,and as such water is the environment and the environment is water.
He said that the theme of 2026 world water is not just a celebration but symbolic,as women are the main users of water.
Abiodun therefore called for women inclusiveness of women in major decision making in all sectors
Also speaking,the Commissioner for special duties and inter government affairs Funmi Efuwape, revealed that water is necessary to life.as such women suffers more ,in scarcity of water,but are given little or no recognition.
She called for an inclusiveness governance that includes full partcipation of women in water governance.
In her address,the host ,special adviser to the governor on water resources,Damilola Otubanjo who spoke on the gateway packaging water ,an initiative of the ogun state water corporation,said the vision has been conceived for long, which credits the corporation as not only givers of water ,but a giver of safe,clean and portable water ,worthy of public trust.
She further stated that its a visible and tangible representation of operational standard,which represents a symbol and accountability.
The SA to the Governor revealed that the water would be distributed free to stakeholders across the state,so to aid awareness and encourage stakeholders engagement.
Delving on the theme "water and gender: advancing inclusive water governance",the speaker Deji Ashiru,said that over 2 billion globally lack safely managed drinking water in sub sahara africa and hundreds of millions also still lacks clean water.
Engineer Deji also revealed that 75percent of water collection burden is borne by women and girls globally ,stating that 40 billion hours per year is spent by women ,collecting water in sub Sahara Africa and also 2 billion+ people world wide lack access to safely managed drinking water.
The speaker noted that women are the majority of the small holding population and dominate post harvest processing and marketing chains cap,but still remains the minority in governance.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the " gateway water by commissioner for finance,Dapo Okubadejo who represented governor dapo abiodun.
