International Press Institute has expressed deep concern over the abduction of American journalist Shelly Kittleson by a suspected Iranian-backed Iraqi militia in Baghdad. Her current whereabouts are unknown.
Shelly is an experienced, award-winning freelance journalist who has extensively covered conflict across the Middle East, reporting mostly from Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan. She contributes to U.S.-based and Italian outlets including Al-Monitor and Il Foglio.
IPI calls for urgent action from authorities to secure Shelly’s safe and immediate release and for those responsible for this egregious attack on press freedom to be held accountable.
