Officers of the Ogun State Fire and Safety Service have received the newly revised Public Service Rules (PSR) to guide their career progression and daily operations.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Mrs. Funmi Baker, stated this during an in-house familiarisation workshop for State Firefighters, at Abeokuta, urging officers to avoid any actions that could hinder effective service delivery.
Mrs. Baker advised them to obtain, study and comply with the updated PSR to promote discipline, prevent abuse of power, uphold the integrity of the State and ensure a safer Nigeria.
"Rules are not mere formalities; they form the bedrock of our public service ethos. Obeying them ensures professionalism, accountability, fairness and efficiency in discharging your duties," she stated.
Speaking, Mrs. Titilope Akindele, a seasoned administrator in the Ogun State Public Service, , guided participants through the revised PSR, explained that this edition amends the 2003 version to promote balance and equity, incorporating enhancements such as extended maternity leave, paternity leave provisions and clearer career progression guidelines, among other regulations.
She stressed that the workshop aimed to equip the workforce with knowledge of the new additions and their implementations, ultimately boosting productivity, efficiency and effectiveness among Public Servants.
On his part, Director of Fire and Safety Services, Engr. Fatai Adefala, expressed appreciation to the present administration’s zero-tolerance stance on fire and disaster incidents, saying commitment is demonstrated through regular officer training, provision of modern firefighting equipment, upgrade of existing stations and construction of new ones to strengthen statewide operations.
Speaking on behalf of participants, Mr. Oluwakayode Fadahunsi and Engr. Adegoke Toluwalase, commended management and the resource persons for the enlightenment on the revised rules, assuring full compliance with the stipulated guidelines.
