The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Command, led by Deputy Comptroller Afeni, has intercepted 1,202 kegs of smuggled vegetable oil in two intelligence-led operations on March 19 and 24, 2026. This follows earlier seizures of 2,539 kegs (March 11, 2026) and 2,090 kegs (December 16, 2025). The command aims to curb unfair competition and protect local manufacturers.
In a separate move, the command handed over 285 sacks of seized Mica Stones (50kg, worth ₦104.7m) to the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development. The stones were intercepted in a routine anti-smuggling operation, highlighting the command's efforts to prevent illegal export of national resources.
Speaking at the handover, Deputy Comptroller Afeni emphasized the threat of illegal solid mineral trade to national security and economy. Afeni who was represented by Assistant Comptroller Onyeasor stressed the command's commitment to stopping illicit outflow of national wealth.

Engr. Ojediran Abimbola Olubumi of the Ministry commended the command's alertness and professionalism, noting the Mica stones would undergo analysis and be integrated into the national mineral database.
The Command also outlined its Export Performance for the month of March 2026, According to a Press Release mae available to Journalists on Wednesday by the Area 1 command's spokesman, Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Chado Zakari, reported a significant increase in export volume and value in March 2026, showcasing enhanced trade facilitation and regional economic growth. According to the report, the command exported 277.8 metric tonnes of goods, valued at $383,100 FOB (Free On Board), a marked increase from 20 metric tonnes worth $104,600 FOB in March 2025.
This represents a 266% increment in value compared to March 2025, highlighting the command's success in monitoring the Idiroko border axis and surrounding creeks. The command has fortified exit points against smuggling of contraband goods and protected natural resources, contributing to the growth.
The achievement demonstrates the command's commitment to efficient trade procedures and regional economic activity.
