The Executive Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Dr. Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, has been selected to receive the Distinguished Public Service Award in Grassroots Development in recognition of his impactful leadership and commitment to community advancement.
According to a letter issued by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) under the Presidency, the award forms part of activities commemorating United Nations Public Service Day, a global platform established to celebrate excellence, innovation, and outstanding contributions in public service.
The letter, signed by the Director-General of BPSR, revealed that Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo emerged through a rigorous merit-based selection process involving stakeholder nominations and an independent performance review. His emergence came from a highly competitive pool of local government chairmen across his geopolitical zone.
The award presentation is scheduled for June 23, 2026, at Nicon Luxury Hotel during the Nigeria Public Service Lecture Series and Awards Ceremony, which will feature a lecture session and an evening award dinner.
This recognition is widely viewed as a reflection of Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo’s dedication to grassroots governance, infrastructural development, and people-oriented policies aimed at improving the welfare of residents across Abeokuta North.
The honour places the council chairman among a select group of public office holders recognised for exceptional service delivery and commitment to sustainable community development.
Observers believe the recognition will further inspire excellence in public service and strengthen confidence in local government administration as a vehicle for bringing governance closer to the people.
