ABEOKUTA, Ogun State — Ogun State Police Command said Thursday it arrested two men in Ijebu-Ode who are wanted in connection with a kidnapping and murder case in Okada, Edo State.
The suspects, identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, were apprehended June 4 in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service. They were later transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for profiling, the command stated in a statement made available to Journalists on Saturday by the Spokesman of the Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
Police said preliminary findings link the two men to a seven-member kidnapping syndicate under investigation for the abduction and killing of two hostages in Edo’s Okada area.
Officers recovered one pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects during the investigation, the command said. The items have been documented as exhibits.
“The alleged offences under investigation occurred outside Ogun State,” the command said. “In line with established inter-state policing procedures,the suspects and all recovered exhibits will be transferred to the Edo State Police Command, which has primary jurisdiction over the matter.”
Ogun Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the operatives for their intelligence-gathering and swift action. He said the command “remains resolute in its determination to prevent criminal elements from using Ogun State as a hideout or transit point.”
