A political support group, Ogun Visionaries, has announced plans to launch a statewide football competition aimed at discovering and developing young talents across all 236 wards in Ogun State.
The Director General of the group, Hon.Leye Odunjo, who disclosed this on Thursday during a Press Conference held in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital, said the ‘Yayi 236 Wards Koseleri Soccer Scouting and Competition’ will kick off in the first week of August 2026.
According to Hon.Odunjo at least one team from each ward will participate, with the competition running from ward level to a grand finale that will produce the first, second and third place teams for the entire state.
He said Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi, who the tournament is named after, is backing the initiative to promote sports development and youth empowerment in the state.
“The competition will feature FIFA-accredited soccer scouting agents who will identify outstanding players. Selected talents will be sponsored for club trials abroad. This creates a direct pathway from Ogun wards to professional football,”
Odunjo added that registration and participation are free, but all players must present a valid voter’s card as part of eligibility and civic engagement.
Winners at all stages will receive cash prizes. Matches will begin in Yewa South Local Government Area before extending to other wards simultaneously.
Sponsors listed for the tournament include Nureni Makanjuola, CEO of Water FC Abuja and FIFA-licensed agent; Chief Amos Bamidele; members of Ogun Visionaries for Yayi; and the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Coaches Association.
Interested teams have been advised to contact the Ogun Visionaries Secretariat on 08036670116, 07030994565, 08038079500 for registration and fixtures.
