Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress said it has dropped former Benue State Gov. Gabriel Suswam and 25 other National Assembly candidates from its final list submitted to the electoral commission ahead of the 2027 general election.
The party, in a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission, said it replaced seven senatorial nominees and 19 House of Representatives candidates following appeals from its May 2026 primaries.
The changes were contained in a letter titled “Forwarding of Approved List of Senatorial and House of Representatives Candidates” and signed by APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda and National Secretary Sen. Ajibola Basiru.
“Following the determination of appeals from the recently concluded primary elections, the reports of the Appeal Committee were reviewed and subsequently considered and approved by the NWC of the APC as the party’s final position on the affected constituencies,” the letter said.
The APC said the substitutions comply with the Electoral Act 2022 and INEC regulations.
Senate changes
Suswam lost the Benue North-East ticket to Emmanuel Memga Udende. Benjamin T. Aber was replaced by Titus Tartenger Zam in Benue North-West, the party said.
Other senatorial replacements include Sen. Sunday Karimi for Aro Samuel Bamidele in Kogi West; Prince Paul Ikonne for Edinburgh Uchenna Erondu in Abia South; and Sen. Shuibu Isa for Mohammed Bello in Taraba North. Two additional senatorial districts were affected, but the party did not name them in the letter made public.
House of Representatives changes
The party said 19 House candidates were replaced. Among those named were Abdulazeez Kaka, who replaced Hon. Samaila Abdu Suleiman in Kaduna North; Barr. Samuel Okezie, who replaced Hon. Chris Nkwonta in Ukwa East/Ukwa West of Abia; and Rt. Hon. Iduma, who replaced the earlier candidate in Afikpo North/Edda of Ebonyi. The remaining 16 names were not disclosed.
States affected
The NWC said the affected constituencies span nine states: Kogi, Abia, Benue, Taraba, Ondo, Niger, Kwara, Kaduna and Ebonyi.
The APC described the list as its “final position” after the appeal process. INEC has yet to publish the complete list of candidates for the 2027 elections.
