Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered one AK-47 rifle, mobile phones and other exhibits during a rescue operation involving the abducted prince of Okun Owa in Odogbolu Local Government Area.
The command said the suspects were gunned down during a gun duel with police operatives who trailed them after the kidnap incident.
In a Press Release signed by the Spokesman of the command on Thursday, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi,stated that sustained operational pressure mounted on a kidnapping gang led to the safe release of the abducted Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris. A subsequent intelligence-led operation resulted in the neutralisation of two kidnappers and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to be a ransom bag, and other incriminating exhibits.
"The victim was abducted on 30th June, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., when the perpetrators invaded his residence at Okun Owa and whisked him away.
"Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the activation of the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit, supported by other tactical teams, to secure the victim's release and apprehend those responsible.
"As a result of sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical pressure mounted on the kidnappers, the victim regained his freedom unharmed on 3rd July, 2026.
"Following the victim's release, operatives intensified efforts to apprehend the kidnappers. Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis. On sighting the police, the kidnappers engaged the operatives in a gun duel. The operatives responded decisively, leading to the neutralisation of two kidnappers, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds.
"A search conducted on the neutralised kidnappers led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with one empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to be a ransom bag, and other exhibits linked to the criminal operation. The corpses of the neutralised kidnappers have been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional exhibits.
