Towulade marks first coronation anniversary, honours Marwa, unveils community projects

The Towulade of Owu-Akinale in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Oluseyi Adediran, Otileta I, has announced activities to commemorate the first anniversary of his coronation, with plans to honour the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), for what he described as nearly three decades of mentorship.

The monarch, in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Media Office, said the week-long celebration would reflect the kingdom's commitment to peace, unity, purposeful leadership and community development.

Oba Adediran expressed gratitude to God, the Ogun State Government, traditional rulers, political leaders and the people of Owu-Akinale for their support since his ascension to the throne one year ago.

He also acknowledged Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Executive Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government and prominent traditional rulers, including the Olu of Ilaro and Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle; the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo; and the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Matemilola, for their contributions to the peace and development of the community.

The monarch further appreciated former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun for their support and guidance.

Speaking on the decision to honour Marwa, Oba Adediran described the NDLEA boss as a mentor and benefactor whose guidance had significantly influenced his leadership journey.

He praised Marwa's public service record and his campaign against drug abuse, saying the NDLEA under his leadership had continued to protect families and strengthen national development.

The royal father urged Nigerians to support the agency and the Federal Government's efforts to combat substance abuse, describing drug abuse as a major threat to national security and the future of young people.

Oba Adediran reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Owu-Akinale, saying his administration would continue to pursue initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare, education and security while attracting industrial growth.

As part of the anniversary celebration, the monarch said several development projects executed through partnerships with indigenes and corporate organisations would be inaugurated.

The projects include the renovation of the ancient Town Hall into a modern palace, the ongoing construction of the Aduni Olufunmilayo Makinde Clinic, the reconstruction of the Baptist Church and Pastorium, and the construction of a police station by Stellar Steel Company.

According to the statement, activities lined up for the anniversary will hold from July 22 to July 25, 2026, and will include a press conference, interfaith service, women's programme, football competition, medical outreach, project commissioning, chieftaincy installations, cultural displays and a grand finale.
