2027: Abiodun, Tinubu’s Records Will Deliver Ogun to APC – Taiwo

A former Chief of Staff to the Ogun State Governor and APC consensus candidate for Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency, Dr Toyin Taiwo, has hinged the party’s chances of retaining Ogun State in the 2027 governorship election on the performances of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Taiwo said the achievements of the two administrations, coupled with the constituency interventions of the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, would give the All Progressives Congress an advantage at the polls.

He made the submission during an interview on Oju Abe, a current affairs programme on Splash FM, Abeokuta.

According to him, the APC has built enough political goodwill across the state to secure victory in the governorship election and other contests in 2027.

Taiwo specifically expressed confidence that Adeola would defeat the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Ladi Adebutu, in the election.

He predicted that the APC candidate would win in all 20 local government areas of the state, saying the only uncertainty was the margin of victory.

“Senator Adeola will defeat Ladi Adebutu decisively. I am confident that he will secure victory across the 20 local government areas of Ogun State. The only question that remains is the margin of victory,” he said.

Taiwo said voters would consider the impact of government policies and projects when deciding who to support in the election.

He listed the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration, Abiodun’s ISEYA agenda and Adeola’s interventions in his senatorial district among the factors he believed would work in favour of the APC.

He also defended the emergence of Adeola as the party’s consensus governorship candidate, saying the decision followed consultations among APC leaders, former governors and other major stakeholders.

Taiwo's comments came amid renewed political activities by suspended APC chieftain Abayomi Hunye, who has also obtained the party’s governorship nomination form.

The former Chief of Staff, however, played down Hunye’s ambition, describing his decision to obtain the form as a possible bargaining strategy within the party.

“Hunye has his distinctive way of playing politics. In my view, he obtained the nomination form as part of a strategy to negotiate for a political position,” he said.

Taiwo further dismissed claims that Hunye had the backing of the people of Ipokia for his governorship ambition.

“The people of Ipokia have not endorsed Hunye for governor. Any suggestion to the contrary does not accurately reflect the collective position of the people,” he said.

He maintained that Hunye’s suspension, which he said started at the ward level and progressed through the party’s structures, had further complicated his political position.

Taiwo urged APC members to respect the party’s decisions, stressing that individual ambitions should not override the principle of party supremacy.

Beyond the governorship contest, Taiwo said his legislative agenda would focus on education, youth empowerment and economic development if elected to represent Yewa South/Ipokia in the House of Representatives.

He promised to expand his existing educational intervention, including payment of GCE examination fees and distribution of school uniforms, bags and learning materials to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

He also pledged greater support for market women and youths through skills acquisition, enterprise development and access to economic opportunities.

On Tongeji Island, Taiwo said he would leverage the National Assembly to attract Federal Government intervention towards developing the area and unlocking its economic potential for the benefit of communities in Yewa South and Ipokia.
