Former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has described her late husband, Adeniyi Adeosun, as a loving and mischievous man whose death has left her heartbroken.
Adeosun spoke on Thursday during the funeral service for her husband, who died on August 5 at the age of 62.
In a tribute, the former minister recalled how she and her husband had planned to devote more time to enjoying life together after years of being responsible with their finances.
According to her, the couple, who would have celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary this year, agreed to travel every three months and spend more of their money on themselves.
“This year would have been 33 years of our wedding anniversary. We had a meeting, the two of us, and we said now every three months, we’re just going to be travelling, we spend all the money,” she said.
Adeosun said they felt they had been “so sensible” for years and had reached a point where they deserved to enjoy themselves.
She said the sudden death of her husband had been difficult to accept, but expressed gratitude to God for the life they shared, their marriage, children, family and friends.
“He wasn’t sick. He simply went to sleep and didn’t wake up,” she said, adding that she would also prefer to die peacefully in her sleep.
Recounting her last moments with him at the mortuary, Adeosun said she was struck by the smile on his face.
She also remembered her husband’s playful side, describing him as a “mischievous human being” who often found unusual ways to entertain himself.
She recalled how, during a trip to the United States, Adeniyi allegedly declared himself disabled and obtained a wheelchair to avoid a long immigration queue.
“The kind of things that were coming to his head. That’s Niyi for you,” she recalled.
Adeosun said their home was filled with laughter and that her husband would be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
“He’s going to be very much missed by everybody that knew him,” she said.
