Ex-finance minister Kemi Adeosun loses husband

Former Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun has lost her husband, Anthony Adeniyi "Niyi" Adeosun, who died in Lagos on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the age of 62. The family announced his passing in a statement signed by Rev. C. A. Adeosun on behalf of the family.

According to the statement, the late Anthony Adeosun lived "a life devoted to God, family and service." The family requested privacy as they mourn what they described as "our irreplaceable loss" and expressed gratitude to those who had offered prayers, condolences and support. Funeral and Christian burial arrangements are expected to be announced later.

No official cause of death has been disclosed by the family as of Thursday morning.
Kemi Adeosun served as Nigeria's Minister of Finance from November 2015 to September 2018 under former President Muhammadu Buhari. Before then, she was Commissioner for Finance in Ogun State and later chaired the Board of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).

The news has since drawn condolences from associates, political figures and members of the public, who have extended sympathies to the former minister and the Adeosun family.
