The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the names, credentials and personal particulars of 19 presidential candidates and their running mates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The electoral body announced that the documents, contained in Form EC9, are being displayed at its offices nationwide in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, allowing Nigerians to scrutinize the information submitted by candidates seeking elective office.
According to INEC, the publication is in compliance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which requires the commission to display the personal particulars, affidavits and credentials submitted by candidates within 21 days of receiving nominations from political parties.
The commission stated that the documents are available for public inspection at its national, state and local government offices to promote transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
The move comes amid heightened political activities and growing public interest in the candidates contesting the presidential election scheduled for 2027.
Among the prominent candidates are President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and other contenders from various political parties.
INEC emphasized that the publication of the candidates' documents gives members of the public the opportunity to challenge any information contained in the forms through the appropriate legal channels if found to be false.
The display of Form EC9 marks a crucial stage in Nigeria's electoral process as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
