A doctor at Longe Hospital Medical Centre, Sabo, Owode-Yewa, Ogun State, Dr Babanki Samuel, has waived a N300,000 outstanding medical bill owed by a woman who lost her baby after undergoing a Caesarean Section at the hospital.
The development followed an intervention by the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Olubode Bode Ojajuni, after the woman, Precious Mathew, approached the Owode-Yewa Police Division on Sunday, September 13, 2026, seeking help over the outstanding hospital bill.
Mathew, who resides in the Ogooluwa area, behind Owode Market, had undergone a Caesarean Section at the medical centre on June 30, 2026, but subsequently lost her baby.
According to the account, the total hospital bill incurred during her treatment was N400,000.
She had, however, paid N100,000, leaving an outstanding balance of N300,000.
Unable to settle the balance, the bereaved woman reportedly took the matter to the Owode-Yewa Police Division, where the issue came to the attention of the Ogun State Police Command.
Rather than allowing the situation to escalate, the police intervened and the matter was brought before the state Commissioner of Police.
Ojajuni subsequently interfaced with the medical doctor, appealing to him to consider the woman's circumstances and show compassion following the loss of her child.
Following the appeal, Samuel voluntarily waived the entire outstanding N300,000 bill.
The decision enabled Mathew to leave the hospital without having to settle the remaining debt.
The police described the development as an example of how dialogue, understanding and compassion could help resolve difficult situations.
The command expressed appreciation to Samuel for his gesture and humanity towards the bereaved woman.
The incident also highlights the human side of police intervention, as the woman did not approach the police over a criminal matter but because she needed assistance in resolving a difficult personal situation.
For Mathew, the N300,000 was more than a figure on a hospital bill. It was a financial burden coming at a time when she was already dealing with the emotional pain of losing her baby.
The police intervention provided an opportunity for dialogue, while the doctor's decision ultimately lifted the burden from the grieving woman.
The Ogun State Police Command commended Samuel for choosing compassion and urged members of the public to continue to demonstrate humanity and understanding towards people facing difficult circumstances.
