2027: Amosun’s Political Movement Dumps APC for PDP in Ogun State

​ABEOKUTA, — In a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Senator Ibikunle Amosun (SIA) Movement in Abeokuta South Local Government Area has formally defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

​Announcing the decision in Abeokuta, the leader of the movement in Abeokuta South, Moshood Okanlawon Akinleye—popularly known as Americo—described their experience within the APC as deeply disappointing. He declared a total return to the PDP, which he described as the movement's true political home.

​Akinleye leveled sharp criticism at the ruling party in Ogun State, accusing the APC of lacking clear direction and failing to provide purposeful, people-centered leadership. He further likened the party's governance style to a cult, alleging that its policies have consistently neglected the welfare and aspirations of ordinary citizens.

​As part of its political realignment, the SIA Movement formally endorsed a full slate of PDP candidates for the 2027 elections:

• ​Senator Iyabo Obasanjo for Ogun Central Senatorial District
• ​Chief Toyin Amuzu for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency
• ​Olufunbi Majekodunmi for Abeokuta South State Constituency I
• ​Adeoye Adewale Adeniran for Abeokuta South State Constituency II

​Akinleye emphasized that the decision to back the PDP slate followed a thorough reassessment of the group's political direction. He committed the movement to mobilizing its grassroots membership across Abeokuta South to ensure victory for all PDP candidates at the polls.

​Reacting to the development, Chief Toyin Amuzu welcomed the group, describing their return as a significant boost to the PDP’s electoral prospects in Ogun State. Commending Akinleye and his followers for their political courage, Amuzu assured the returning members that the PDP remains committed to accountable, people-first governance. He urged all members to maintain unity as campaign strategies take shape.
