ABEOKUTA, Nigeria (AP) — Former BBC journalist Gbolahan Macjob has been appointed spokesperson to former senator Iyabo Obasanjo, bringing his experience in broadcast journalism and filmmaking to her public communication team.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by Obasanjo’s media office and shared with PUNCH Online on Monday.
Macjob is expected to manage communication around Obasanjo’s positions, activities and public engagements, using traditional and digital media platforms, according to the statement.
“His professional profile and published work indicate experience in broadcast journalism, including contributions to BBC reporting,” the statement said.
Beyond journalism, Macjob's filmmaking
experience is expected to support efforts to promote the creative sector in Ogun Central, the statement said.
It described the creative industry as a significant source of employment in Nigeria, second only to agriculture, and said Macjob would be interested in expanding opportunities in the sector across the senatorial district.
The appointment also reflects the growing role of media professionals in political communication in Nigeria, where public figures increasingly use strategic messaging and digital platforms to engage supporters and communicate their positions.
Obasanjo’s media office did not provide further details about Macjob’s immediate responsibilities or specific plans for the role.
