It was a celebration of a fulfilled and well-spent life on friday, as family, friends, and associates gathered at Isaga Orile in the Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State to pay their final respects to the patriarch of the Fayomi family, Elder Jeremiah Olusola Fayomi (popularly known as Baba Olopa), who was laid to rest in a blaze of glory.
The funeral ceremonies, which included a Christian wake-keep, burial service, outing, and thanksgiving service, were held at The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Isaga Orile Assembly (Ilewo Orile District, Ita-Oshin Area, LAWMNA Territory). The service was officiated by church leaders, including Assembly Pastor J.O. Oniyide, District Apostle Pastor Dr. A. Olu Adegbokan, Area Superintendent Pastor I.G. Awotanmi and LAWMNA Territory Chairman Pastor M.O. Ogunibe.
Paying tribute to her late father, one of his daughters, Adebunmi Adefunke Balogun, recalled his resilience, faith, and the enduring values he instilled in his children:
"My Dad, I will forever miss you, and I will never forget the special Bible verse you taught me, Colossians 3:17. Daddy, I believe you saw God before you saw death. You came to this world to fight battles, which you fought and conquered. You told us your mother left you at seven months, but you kept growing in strength. You are a brave and loving person. You made a positive impact in the life of anyone you came across, including the family. You are loved by everyone, and your memory can never be forgotten."
In another moving tribute, another daughter, Adenike Juliana Olowe, reflected on his sudden passing and his deep devotion to family and his late wife, Deaconess Susan Akpan-Udok Fayomi:
"You were a loving father, a devoted husband, and a man of God, and a wonderful friend. You taught us discipline, hard work, honesty and contentment, always reminding us, 'Nkan to ba ni je ko te e lorun' (be content with what you have). Your good name and exemplary character opened doors for me, and I remain proud to be your daughter... You loved our mother, Deaconess Susan Akpan-Udok Fayomi, so dearly that you chose not to remarry after her death on October 3, 2020. Six years later, in the same month of October, you departed too. I find comfort imagining that you have finally reunited with your beloved wife, sharing your familiar jokes and laughter once again."
Following the church service, the late patriarch was laid to rest at his residence in Isaga Orile, surrounded by family, well-wishers, and members of the community who came out in large numbers to celebrate his impactful legacy.
Guests were later hosted to a grand reception and entertainment at the Rev. Fry Memorial Anglican Church Hall, where a lively Juju musician on the band stand kept the atmosphere vibrant and memorable for all in attendance.
