Jigi Bello: OGEPA GM to sponsor 1,000 free eye screenings, glasses in Ogun on Oct. 17
Hon. Kehinde Bello, Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Dapo Abiodun and General Manager of OGEPA, is sponsoring free eye screenings for 1,000 residents.
The initiative, tagged “Jigi Bello,” will also provide free eyeglasses to beneficiaries requiring visual correction.
The programme is scheduled to hold on Oct. 17 at the Ijebu Imusin Muslim Community Event Centre, beside Muslim Nursery and Primary School, Ijebu Imusin.
The initiative aims to improve access to eye care services and promote better vision among residents, particularly elderly people.
As part of the programme, participants will undergo eye examinations to identify visual impairments and other eye-related conditions requiring medical attention.
Elderly beneficiaries diagnosed with cataracts during the screening will be offered free cataract surgeries, subject to necessary medical checks and confirmed appointments.
The organisers said the surgical intervention would follow appropriate examinations to determine patients’ suitability for the procedure.
The distribution of free eyeglasses is expected to assist eligible beneficiaries with vision-related difficulties identified during the screening exercise.
The initiative is designed to bring essential eye care services closer to residents of Ijebu Imusin and neighbouring communities.
Residents are expected to benefit from the screening exercise, while those requiring further treatment will receive guidance on the next steps.
Bello, who also serves as the General Manager of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), is sponsoring the programme as part of his community outreach efforts.
The programme is also intended to demonstrate support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun, Sen. Solomon Adeola, ahead of the 2027 elections.
It equally expresses support for Gov. Dapo Abiodun as the APC senatorial candidate for Ogun East, alongside other party candidates contesting the forthcoming elections.
The “Jigi Bello” initiative combines free eye screening, eyeglasses distribution and cataract surgery support to improve access to eye care while engaging residents ahead of the 2027 polls.
