NAF 931 crash: Newlywed co-pilot among 25 killed in Ondo
The co-pilot of the Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft, NAF 931, Squadron Leader AP Man-Ugwueje, who reportedly got married two weeks ago, was among the 25 people who died in the aircraft crash in Ondo State.
The aircraft, which was travelling from Benin to Lagos, crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State on Monday.
NAF 931 had 25 people on board, comprising five crew members and 20 passengers.
The five crew members were Squadron Leader MI Aburime, the flight captain; Squadron Leader AP Man-Ugwueje and Flight Lieutenant IS Bako, both listed as co-pilots; Warrant Officer Abubakar A, an aircraft technician; and Corporal Uguru HC, also an aircraft technician.
The passengers were Flight Lieutenant TL Lazarus; Flight Lieutenant M Akinloye; Flying Officer IM Adeshina; Master Warrant Officer Onwuka F; Master Warrant Officer Matini BA; Warrant Officer Nuhu FS; Flight Sergeant James RB; and Flight Sergeant Mohammed AI.
Others were Sergeant Ani AE; Sergeant Izibenikien SI; Sergeant Alafuka C; Sergeant Mbadugha AN; Lance Corporal Ugwuba FC; Lance Corporal Eledan GE; Mrs Ezeh Nneka; Godstmine Tarabina; Joy Micheal; Sunday Micheal; Ukeme David; and Gideon Omotola.
The crash has thrown the Nigerian military community into mourning, with details of the circumstances surrounding the incident still being established.
The aircraft involved was a Nigerian Air Force ATR 42, with the registration number NAF 931.
According to the information provided, the aircraft was delivered to Nigeria in March 2010 as a new aircraft built for the Nigerian Air Force.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, while search and recovery operations continue at the crash site.
