Ogun Police Neutralise Robber, Recover Stolen Vehicles, Arms in Ota Night Raid

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a late-night robbery operation at Ijaba, Iyesi in Ota, gunning down one armed suspect and recovering two vehicles, firearms, and a cache of stolen household electronics.

The operation was executed in the early hours of Sunday, November 1, 2026, by police officers attached to the Onipanu Division under the Ota Area Command, following a distress call from a local resident.

According to a press statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the patrol team was dispatched to the scene at about 1:45 a.m.

"On sighting the operatives, the armed robbers opened fire, prompting an immediate tactical response," Babaseyi stated. "The ensuing exchange of gunfire resulted in the neutralisation of one suspect, while other gang members fled with suspected gunshot injuries."

A search conducted by the police team immediately after the gun duel led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, two live cartridges, and seven expended cartridges from the deceased suspect. Personal items found on him included a Tecno phone, three passport photographs, an MTN SIM pack, two National Identification Number (NIN) cards, and cash.

Police also recovered two stolen vehicles—a Nissan Almera and a Toyota Camry—alongside several looted items, including HP and Dell laptops, a PlayStation console, four mobile phones, a Samsung television, a standing fan, a rechargeable radio, a Wi-Fi device, clothes, an OPay ATM card, a sound deck, and two MP devices.

Babaseyi added that the Command has launched a manhunt to track down the fleeing gang members, particularly those believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds. He further noted that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the ownership of the recovered vehicles and trace their connection to other criminal operations in the state.

Reacting to the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the patrol team for their swift response, professionalism, and courage under fire.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to intelligence-led policing and sustained patrols, assuring residents of their safety while urging the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist the force in curbing crime.
