Police Recover AK-47, Mercedes-Benz, Ammo In Ogun

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have recovered an AK-47 assault rifle, two rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition, and an unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV during a routine operational sweep in the Ota area of the state.

The discovery follows a recent security crackdown in Ijaba, Iyesi, Ota, where police operatives foiled an armed robbery operation, neutralised a suspect, and seized two suspected stolen vehicles alongside a locally made pistol.

Confirming the latest development in a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that the vehicle and the recovered weapons were impounded following a targeted search of the unregistered SUV.

"A search of the unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK led to the discovery of the AK-47 rifle and two rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. The vehicle and recovered exhibits have been secured while investigation continues," the statement read in part.

Reacting to the operational breakthrough, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved for their vigilance and tactical professionalism. He reiterated the command's determination to maintain proactive policing to safeguard life and property across the state.

The police command also called on members of the public to sustain their collaboration with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and actionable security information.
