The acting controller of the federal operation unit,FOU, A, Lagos Command, Controller Hussein k.Ejibonu has announces the arrest of 60 suspected smugglers and seizure of #4bn worth of banned goods.
Ejibonu disclosed this on Thursday,6th,July 2023, while briefing Journalists on the success of the command within six months of the year 2023 at his office in Ikeja, lagos state
Controller Ejibonu said that operatives of the FOU command, ikeja have intensified efforts towards putting an end to the nefarious activities of smugglers in the first six months in the year 2023.
According to him" We have seized smuggled goods from suspected smugglers, and this has ensure blockage and prevention of bringing illicit drugs into the country"
'Within this period the command intercepted 580 goods worth of #4,002,960,075. 60 suspected smugglers were also arrested while we generated #400,599,515,66 as revenue into the coffer of the federal government.
"I commend and thank other security agencies for the synergies between the us that enables the command to nab the relcalsitant violators of the laws of the land, special thanks to the Department of State Security Service, DSS Oyo State that arrested and handed over to us a notorious wanted smuggler who had attacked one of our operatives while performing their lawful duties .
" With able support from the Federal High Court, eleven out of the 60 nabbed smugglers have sentence accordingly by the law court on charges of smuggling and attacking operatives NCS
"We seized 50kg of par boiled smuggled rice, 36,742 bags totalling 62 trailers load, the bags of rice were taken through the bush paths using motorcycles as means of conveyance
Among the seizure made were 14,015(7,728) bags of canabis sativa,,1064 bale's of second handclothes4,50×106kg hard cabard,2 by20 sewed planks,30 motorcycle ( imported), 44 cars,1448 pieces of imported rugs, 218,575 litres of petrol,860 cartons of poultry products,833 used tyres.
'Our determination for the remaining months of the year is to intensify and further wage war against smugglers and prosecute them moment they are arrested". Ejibonu concluded.
