Operatives of the Ogun State police command have arrested Adeola Adeyemo, a 400-level student of Tai Solarin University of Education, for allegedly injuring one Alao Idera, a primary six pupil of Owiwi Nursery and Primary school, Obada Oko area of Abeokuta, with a cane, resulting in the loss of her right eye.

According to the spokesperson of the state police command, Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred when Adeyemo, who was undergoing her teaching practice programme at the school, accidentally used the cane she was holding to pierce the pupil’s eye when the student rushed toward her.

The injured pupil was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, where doctors surgically removed the eye, and the student-teacher arrested.

“it was simply a situation where the teacher, preparing for an end-of-year party, was holding a cane, as teachers often do.

“However, when the student rushed toward her, the cane accidentally caused injury to the student’s eye.

“The 11-year-old primary six student underwent surgery at the Federal Medical Centre, where her right eye was removed,” Odutola stated.

According to Odutola, after realizing that the student’s right eye had been removed, the teacher attempted suicide but was quickly rushed to the hospital where she is currently stable.
