.... inaugurates new executives
It was exchanges of banters, going memory lanes, wine, dine and dance as the 2003 Clubset of Catholic Comprehensive High School, Onikolobo, Abeokuta,reunited to celebrate 22 years after passing out of the school.
Speaking at the event held on Saturday at Abeokuta Club, Oke ilewo, Abeokuta, the National President of the school's alumni, Chief Yemi Adegbite admonished the new excos to apply accountability, humility, discipline and accurate dissemination of information to members so as to maintain the tempo of coming together to give back to their alma mater.
The National President who expressed joy, enjoined the members not to waiver in giving their support to the school and members in need as at all time.
Adegbite, a chartered accountant, while commending the set, charged them to initiate projects so as to leave impressive legacies for coming generation of students of the school.
In his remarks, the National Vice President of the Alumni, kehinde Somoye, urged the clubset to integrate other members who are yet to be in their midst. He added that schools alumni is not a competition, but a reflection and a means to support the alma mater. He also implored them to seek support from well meaning Nigerians in order to ensure development for the school.
Also speaking, the newly inaugurated Governor of the clubset, kazeeem Sodunke,on behalf of other executives pledged commitment to serve with diligence,adding that all the advices given to them would be imbibed,applied in discharging their duties .
Other members of the new executives include;Mosunmola Arogundade as Deputy Governor,Rose Nkechi - Secretary,Olanrewaju Olawale- Assistant Secretary,Badejoko Abayomi as Financial Secretary.Orenuga Idowu -Welfare 1 and Seyi Shogbein as Welfare II,Yemi Oguntola - Social Secretary and Solanke Jamiu as Public Relations Officer.
On Friday October 24,members of the clubset visited the school as part activities marking the anniversary.
She lamented the poor state of facilities in many government-owned schools, noting that the absence of basic amenities such as toilets, water supply, libraries, and computers makes learning difficult for students.
According to her, “Some schools have toilets that are in terrible condition—so bad that students can’t even use them. Those who do risk being exposed to diseases.”
As part of the visit, the old students organized a quiz competition for the current students, which featured participants from all classes, from JSS1 to SS3.
Winners from each class were presented with various educational gifts, including notebooks, school uniforms, pens, and school bags.
In his own remarks, another old student, Mr. Shodunke Kareem Adeleke, revealed that the alumni set plans to provide new school uniforms for students whose uniforms are torn or whose parents cannot afford new ones.
He added that they also intend to give financial support to such students to enable them to sew their uniforms properly.
Adeleke further disclosed that the old students have plans to purchase speakers and microphones for the school to enhance communication during assemblies and other school activities.
He assured that the project would be completed within the next few months as part of their ongoing support to the school.
Speaking during the event, the senior boy of the school, James Goodness, expressed his joy at meeting the old students.
He said the visit was an eye-opener for him and his colleagues, as they learned valuable lessons from the experiences shared by the alumni about their days in school and life after graduation.
In her address, the principal of Catholic Comprehensive High School, Mrs. Abiola Modupe Olaniyi, appreciated the 2003 set for their thoughtful gesture and for giving back to the school that nurtured them.
She described their act as commendable and encouraged other alumni groups from different schools to emulate the gesture by returning to their alma maters to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of education in Nigeria.
