The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ogun State Chapter, has congratulated the Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola along with President, Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Mr. Seyi Johnson, former SWAN Chairman in Ogun state, Alhaji Hakeem Akintunde, and Deacon Kunle Oluwusi on their well-deserved national awards from the SWAN National body.
The awards were in recognition of the recipients' outstanding contributions and dedication to the development and promotion of sports in Nigeria.
In a statement issued in Abuja by the Ogun SWAN Chairman, who doubles as the Chairman, Planning Committee, Comrade Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, the chapter praised the NSC DG for his visionary leadership and commitment to providing an enabling environment for sports to thrive across the nation.
The event, marking six decades of SWAN’s contribution to sports journalism and development, celebrated notable Nigerians who have played key roles in advancing the nation’s sports sector.
Olopade was honored with the Distinguished Service Awards (SDSA) award in recognition of his unwavering partnership and contribution to sports media development.
Seyi Johnson, the CEO of Brussel Sports Management, shared the spotlight with his boss, Hon. Bukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission, who was also celebrated for his visionary leadership and efforts in transforming Nigeria’s sports administration.
"We are immensely proud of the Director-General's recognition. His commitment to grassroots development and the upliftment of our national teams is evident for all to see. This award is a clear validation of his tireless efforts," the Ogunsiji stated.
The statement further lauded Mr. Seyi Johnson, Alhaji Hakeem Akintunde, and a veteran sports writer, Deacon Kunle Oluwusi, acknowledging their significant roles in advancing the course of sports journalism and administration.
"To Mr. Johnson, Alhaji Akintunde, and Deacon Oluwusi, we celebrate your excellence. You have consistently demonstrated high professional standards and a passion for sports that inspires us all. Your contributions have not only enriched the media landscape but have also positively impacted the sports ecosystem in Nigeria and specifically here in Ogun State," the Chairman added.
Ogun SWAN reiterated its commitment to continuing its collaborative relationship with the NSC and all stakeholders to ensure that Ogun State remains at the forefront of sports excellence in Nigeria.
The chapter wished all awardees continued success and called on them to view the recognition as a motivation for even greater service to the nation.
The SWAN Distinguished Service Awards (SDSA) are part of activities marking the 60th Anniversary of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, designed to honor individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to sports and sports journalism in Nigeria.
