The Federal Government has reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to work with the United States and other international partners to completely eradicate terrorism and criminal networks operating within its borders.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this known during a world press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday, where he restated President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to addressing insecurity without bias or discrimination.
Acknowledging the nation’s persistent security challenges, Idris clarified that these issues are not religiously motivated, contrary to narratives suggesting targeted attacks against certain groups.
“The Nigerian government is willing to work with international partners, including the United States, to ensure that criminals are permanently eliminated,” the minister said. “We welcome support from global partners to address our security challenges.”
The minister noted that in the past two years, the Tinubu administration has intensified its anti-terror efforts, leading to an improved position on the Global Terrorism Index and significant restructuring within the security sector.
“President Tinubu is leading efforts to resolve these issues in collaboration with the U.S. and other countries,” Idris added. “Nigeria acknowledges the severity of its insecurity situation, and the government has taken note of the U.S. stance regarding alleged human rights violations.”
He reiterated that President Tinubu remains resolute in his determination to restore peace and stability across the country.
The statement follows recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who warned of possible military intervention in Nigeria over alleged killings of Christians, and Nigeria’s subsequent designation as a Country of Particular Concern by the U.S. government.
The Federal Government’s latest position appears aimed at calming diplomatic tensions while projecting a commitment to global cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
