Ogun State House of Assembly, through its Committee on Finance and Appropriations, chaired by Hon. Musefiu Lamidi, has commended the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for its women empowerment initiatives, as well as its synergy with the House Assembly in addressing issues affecting women and other vulnerable groups in the State.
The Committee gave the commendation, when the Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Hon. Adijat Adeleye took turn to defend the Ministry’s 2026 budget proposals before the members of the State House of Assembly.
Presenting the Ministry’s budget proposals, the Commissioner stated that plans were underway to standardise the State Women Empowerment Scheme (OKOWOODAPO) through bi-annual general training and in-house capacity building programmes for officers coordinating the scheme across the State.
She added that the Ministry would embark on aggressive enlightenment programmes for women affinity groups, with a focus on business skills acquisition to enhance economic independence.
Hon. Adeleye further informed the Committee of some of the proposed legacy projects of the Ministry for the next fiscal year, including the construction of a modern Women Development Centre at Kobape and the renovation of the Fatty Lams Recreational Centre for Persons living with Disabilities at Oke-Ilewo, among others.
Other Ministries that defended their 2026 budget proposals before the Committee were the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, led by its Commissioner, Mrs. Funmi Efuwape, her Environment counterpart, Mr. Ola Oresanya and that of Sports Development, Mr. Wasiu Isiaka.
