Ogun State Federal Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission, Hon. Morakinyo OgoOluwa Akinleye, has cautioned political actors and aspirants against calumny campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections.
He urged stakeholders to focus on developmental issues, present quantifiable plans, and engage in constructive debates that address Ogun State residents' needs. He warned that personal attacks, misinformation, and character assassination undermine democratic institutions and erode public confidence.
The State Ombudsman, in a statement made available to Journalists on Wednesday, warned that elections should not be turned into arenas for personal attacks, character assassination, or misinformation, noting that such practices undermine democratic institutions and erode public confidence.
"Ogun State has earned a reputation for intellectualism, progressive thought, and political maturity," Akinleye said. "The electorate deserves campaigns built on ideas, not insults; programmes, not propaganda; vision, not violence."
Akinleye encouraged candidates to articulate clear manifestos and participate in debates that address the people's needs, adding that campaigns must be inclusive and devoid of ethnic prejudices.
