Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued five Gateway Polytechnic students abducted by armed criminals in Sapade.
The operation involved tactical units and intelligence, with the kidnappers fleeing after a gun duel. The rescued students are receiving medical attention. Police are tracking the suspects.
Spokesman of the Command, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, in a Press Release made available to Journalists on Wednesday stated that the rescue operation was launched after a distress call was made to Ipara division on April 27, 2026, around 10:55 PM, following the discovery of an abandoned vehicle with bullet holes and bloodstains.
The kidnapped students were rescued on April 28, 2026, after police tracked the abductors' escape routes. The students had been held captive for approximately 24 hours.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, ordered the deployment of tactical units, including SWAT and Anti-Kidnapping Unit, to rescue the students.
The police operation involved coordinated bush combing and tracking, leading to a gun duel with the kidnappers, who fled with suspected gunshot wounds.
The rescued students received medical attention for conditions sustained during captivity. Their families have been notified, and the police are providing support.
The Ogun State Police Command is continuing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice, with bush combing operations ongoing.
