National Youth Council of Nigeria,NYCN has condemned Arewa Youth Assembly's demand to impeach Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah over Progressive Governors' Forum issues.
The group expressed the note of caution on Monday during a press conference held at Nuj Secretariat, Oke - llewo, Abeokuta .
Addressing Journalists the National Vice President of the National Youth Council, Comrade Kehinde Olorunjubelo and Ogun State Coordinator of the Commonwealth Youth Organization, Comrade Emmanuel Ojo, alongside Gateway Progressive Youth,fin.sec, Comrade Oluwafemi Awonowo described the Arewa Youth Assembly's move as misplaced and counterproductive, saying youth groups shouldn't be drawn into internal party matters unrelated to young Nigerians' welfare.
Comrade Olorunjubelo urged youths to focus on broader national development concerns rather than political disagreements within the APC.
He noted that the Progressive Governors' Forum is an internal APC structure with mechanisms for resolving disputes, and youth organizations should focus on issues affecting young Nigerians.
"Youth should prioritize unemployment, insecurity, education, and economic hardship – areas where advocacy can drive change,Dragging youth groups into PGF disagreements distracts from pressing challenges facing Nigerian youths". he added.
Olorunjubelo urged youth organizations to remain independent, focused, and committed to holding leaders accountable on policies impacting young Nigerians.
He emphasized that Youth groups should avoid being used as pawns in intra-party battles.
"Youth should be involved in serious national issues rather than criticizing something not worth it."
He reiterated t the National Youth Council its commitment to promoting youth welfare and national development., noting that the Council's stance was aimed at refocusing youth energies on critical national issues.
Olorunjubelo ascribed the Arewa Youth Assembly's demand for impeachment as one being influenced by disgruntled elements.
Contributing ,the Ogun state Coordinator of the Commonwealth Youth Organization, Comrade Emmanuel Ojo noted that governor Abiodun has been at the forefront of mobilizing support to ensure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory in the 2027 general elections.
“The youth across Ogun State are fully mobilized and ready to demonstrate their solidarity with the President, with the Governor’s backing. Governor Abiodun has also set a clear target for the state’s votes, underscoring his determination to deliver a strong result for President Tinubu.
“There is no doubt that Governor Abiodun has been working consistently and effectively to advance the President’s agenda. His efforts deserve recognition, not dismissal.
“He remains 100 percent committed to supporting President Tinubu and ensuring Ogun State plays a decisive role in the next election cycle”, he concluded
