_Namadi, Abure groups end rift, unveil consensus ticket
ABEOKUTA, Ogun State — Factions of the Labour Party in Ogun State united on Monday and named Hon. Mojisola Oluwaseun Ajayi as the party’s consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election, ending a long-running internal rift.
Leaders of the Namadi and Abure factions announced the reconciliation at a joint event held at Nuj Secretariat Hall, Oke ilewo, Abeokuta, saying unity was needed to challenge the ruling party and deliver “people-oriented government” in 2027.
Apagun Olaolu Samuel, leader of the Namadi faction, said both sides agreed to set aside differences after consultations aimed at strengthening the party.
“Unity became imperative if we must rescue Ogun State from political jobbers and win in 2027,” Samuel said. “Internal divisions would only weaken our chances.”
He said the parties agreed to field a single candidate for all elective positions. Candidates for Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly seats also emerged through consensus between the factions.
Unveiling Ajayi as the flagbearer, Samuel described her as a young, credible candidate with compassion for residents and energy to reshape Ogun’s political space. He said the choice reflects LP’s push for youth leadership, noting the party’s base in the state is largely youthful.
Olubukola Shoyoye, chairman of the Abure faction in Ogun, said the reunification marks the end of factionalism.
“The divisions were counterproductive, like siblings punching each other,” Shoyoye said. “We are now one united family.”
She expressed optimism that the consensus arrangement would boost LP’s prospects in 2027 and make the party a formidable contender for governor and legislative seats.
In her acceptance speech, Ajayi pledged an inclusive administration focused on accountability and residents’ welfare.
“I will cater for everyone and no one will be neglected. Everyone will be accountable,” Ajayi said. “As a youth, a mother and a wife, I understand what it takes to build a home. We will make sure Ogun State enjoys what it takes to have a home builder as leader.”
