2027: Ogun NDC Expresses Confidence As Candidates Undergo DSS Vetting, Promises Inclusive Governance

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed confidence in the integrity of its candidates contesting the 2027 general elections in Ogun State, declaring that none of them has encountered any challenges in the ongoing screening exercise being conducted by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The Ogun State Chairman of the party, Mr. Femi Alao, made this known while addressing journalists in Abeokuta, where he described the DSS verification exercise as a routine and legitimate process designed to authenticate the credentials and backgrounds of candidates seeking elective offices.

Alao disclosed that the screening commenced on Tuesday, with the party presenting its candidates in batches, adding that about 20 out of the 37 candidates fielded by the NDC have already completed the exercise.

He explained that the party's candidates consist of one governorship candidate, three senatorial candidates, nine House of Representatives candidates and 24 House of Assembly candidates, noting that the remaining aspirants are expected to conclude the screening by next Monday.

The NDC chairman dismissed suggestions that candidates should disregard the invitation extended by the DSS, insisting that the security agency was merely carrying out its constitutional responsibility of conducting background checks on aspirants.

According to him, the party directed all its candidates to honour the invitation in the interest of transparency, accountability and respect for due process.

"The DSS has been friendly throughout the exercise. No candidate was asked to pay money. They only requested relevant documents for vetting and background checks, which is part of their responsibility," Alao stated.

He further revealed that the exercise has been orderly and hitch-free, expressing optimism that the remaining candidates would complete the process without any difficulty.

Speaking on the party's vision ahead of the 2027 elections, Alao assured residents of Ogun State that an NDC-led administration would focus on good governance, efficient service delivery and inclusive development.

He pledged that, the party would implement programmes aimed at improving the welfare of women, youths and other segments of the population, while expressing confidence that the NDC would secure victory at the polls.

Alao also maintained that the NDC has continued to expand its political influence across Ogun State, describing the party as a formidable platform capable of providing credible leadership and shaping the state's political future.

He urged party members and supporters to remain law-abiding and continue to comply with all electoral guidelines and lawful security procedures as preparations for the elections gather momentum.
