ABEOKUTA — Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged APC governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, to conduct a peaceful campaign ahead of the 2027 election.
Obasanjo gave the advice on Friday when Yayi and his entourage paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Abeokuta.
“My prayer is that your desire and ambition will be in tandem with the plan of God for your life. Go out in peace, cause nobody anxiety, say what you want to say and allow the people to decide,” the former president said.
Earlier, Yayi said he came to formally inform Obasanjo of his emergence as the APC governorship candidate and to seek his “fatherly blessings, prayers and guidance” ahead of the poll.
He described Obasanjo as “the father of Ogun State” whose counsel has remained invaluable to successive leaders irrespective of political affiliation.
“I have always been part of this family. I have visited Daddy several times for discussions about Ogun State and Nigeria, and I can confirm that the advice he has given me has always worked for me,” Adeola said.
The senator noted that no one could aspire to lead Ogun State without recognising Obasanjo’s contributions to the state’s development, adding that the visit was a mark of respect and appreciation.
Adeola pledged to campaign across Ogun East, Ogun West and Ogun Central with a vision of transforming the state’s economy and improving agriculture.
He acknowledged Obasanjo’s long-standing passion for agriculture, promising to build on the sector’s enormous potential to position Ogun as the food basket of Lagos and the South-West.
The APC candidate also said he would continue consulting widely and seeking the prayers and support of respected stakeholders as he campaigns across the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Aside from Yayi’s entourage, two of former President Obasanjo’s sons, including Olujowon, who is a supporter of the APC governorship candidate, were also present during the visit.
