Makinde Visits Rescued Oriire Kidnap Victims at Military Hospital, Assures Full Support

IBADAN — Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on Saturday paid a visit to the pupils and teachers rescued from Oriire Local Government Area, who are currently receiving medical care at the Military Hospital in Ibadan, the state capital.
The victims were freed on Friday by a joint operation of security agencies after spending 56 days in captivity following their abduction on May 15, 2026, from three schools in Ahoro-Esinle, Yawota and Alawusa communities.
Governor Makinde was received at the hospital by top officials of the Nigerian Army and medical personnel. He moved from ward to ward to speak with the victims and their families.
Speaking with journalists after the visit, the governor said his administration would cover all medical expenses and provide psychosocial support to help the children and teachers recover fully.
*"We thank God for their safe return. I have come to see them myself and to assure them that Oyo State stands with them. Government will take care of their treatment, counselling, and everything they need to get back to normal life,"* Makinde said.
He also commended the military, DSS, and police for the successful rescue operation, and for arresting 8 suspects linked to the abduction.
The governor urged residents to remain calm and to continue providing useful information to security agencies.
Some of the rescued victims and parents expressed gratitude to the governor and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their intervention.
Security has since been intensified around schools in Oriire LGA to prevent a recurrence.
